Rumours or facts? Google will acquire FeedBurner and that means the search giant will take over the blogosphere, as most of the web logs and podcasts depend on FeedBurner’s RSS system to syndicate content and attract traffic to their sites. The deal, estimated at a $ 100 million, is expected to be closed in early June this year, according to The Associated Press. Google made no official comments on this issue, but do we need any comments? Is there a week without news about another company going under Google hegemony?
Google has great ambitions. It is already a global brand, but its area of influence in other countries is lower than in the USA. So don’t be surprised to read each day in the news something about Google.
That they buy FeedBurner is just one story.
We cannot ignore the video ads and all the new features like mobile access to Google calendars, and the fact that Google will offer a feature to translate search in 12 languages, which is not the same with Google language tools, but uses the translation tools.
Yahoo! already offers such a service in Germany, France and Japan. Additionally Yahoo! offers its already popular Yahoo! Answers service in 9 languages – but this is what we call “user generated content” because the service relies on the users who ask each other questions and give answers.
And now for the not so bright Google news: an independent EU panel has launched a probe into whether Google’s personalized search engine violates EU privacy rules. I already expressed my worries on this issue, and you can read more about what happens now here.
