… and little fish to swim among. J! It almost feels like poetry.

Wait a second! It is poetry!

Playing the Google game is pure poetry. And too many website owners fail to understand why. I am not reinventing fire when I tell you “it is not all about Google.” We all know that. But the voices that say “without Google you are nothing” speak louder.

NO! It is not true. Don’t over-obsess over Google. Play your part in the Web reality. Do it fair. Do it ethically. Do it for your public and Google will follow. Webmasters, Google IS a machine. It doesn’t have a heart. It needs the right code to index your site, it needs some hints to rank it, but it cannot really evaluate quality. Only your readers know what makes them come back, only they know whether to buy what you have to offer.

You could be the first in Google for the most profitable keywords… The ranking is worthless without a quality product to convert visitors into buyers. So don’t focus your SEO on Google. The truest maxim on the Web is: “from hero to zero” (or vice versa).

You need to be there, everywhere you can… just in case. Look around you. Google has failed (so far) at joining the Web 2.0.

Efforts are being made, but the web 3.0 is on the way and both these two technologies are not about software and hardware, but about the people using them.

Do I believe that the future will bring other search engines in the spot light? Let’s get real: it is already happening. Many blogs and other social sites get more traffic from digg than from Google. Now, digg is no search engine. But we will need a social search engine and it is time for Google to become it… Or else!
