Over the last year we have encountered many issues with our clients’ choice of hosting company. The main problems encountered are related to where in the world the hosts’ servers are located. For example, 1 & 1’s servers are located in Germany, which can be a problem if you have a .com domain, as you will not appear in Google’s UK search results. It is very important that you choose a hosting company that has it’s servers located in the country to which you are targeting your website at.
The ability of the host providing servers which can run both Linux and Windows operating systems, are also a very important factor when choosing where to get your website hosted. For example, Linux servers are very useful when you need to setup permanent 301 redirects as htaccess files can be utilised. Windows servers have a slightly more complicated procedure which involves having to access the IIS manager which can be quite complicated.
