Blogging and SMO

To increase traffic to your blog is not an easy task, especially if you don’t have the time to “network” with other bloggers, to communicate, to manage the comments you receive (edit them or write pertinent answers) and to submit your blog(s) to blogging communities, directories and “carnivals”.

Social media optimisation is in your hands. There are no real tricks, just a lot of work. The blogosphere is an amazing place: always changing and always challenging. No matter how great your SEO is a blog cannot be successful without SMO (social media optimisation). Some companies hire professional bloggers to write niche entries regularly. The problogger job board abounds of such “opportunities”. Even blog networks like b5media hire their bloggers.

If you have a very popular blog that brings something new to the industry, you could even join the b5media network (they select their blogs carefully and you’ll find there many high quality entries) to get more traffic and build up what bloggers call “authority”.

If you don’t have a blog but you would like to advertise your services, ads on blogger communities might bring a lot of revenue.

Other blogger communities like spicypage, MyBlogLog and fuelmyblog will bring traffic from other bloggers. They are great for exchange of information, networking, increasing the readers’ society and sharing “link love”. With many blogs linking to yours your technorati ranks grow and this leads to another positive result: higher rankings in the SE. So be wise and use technorati and other social media channels!
