The video fever goes on and for Google the Web is no longer enough. Rumours say that the giant is going to sign a contract with Dish Network, one of the most powerful satellite TV companies in the world.
What’s in for Google? Probably a huge financial gain, the satisfaction to have conquered a new market and … buzz. If Google succeeds we are going to hear a lot about this deal. What we know so far (or can presume) is that Google is trying to redefine the way people perceive TV ads and that Google is already broadcasting its new TV commercials to cable subscribers in Calif, as part of a “test run”. With such news burning the feeds today, it is safe to say Google is no longer just a search engine. It’s hard to define what Google really is and I am not even going to try. I just wonder: is there any domain not covered yet by Google?
When we hear that VIACOM sued Google and YouTube for more than 1 billion USD (for using unauthorised Viacom clips on their network) is it safe to say that Google is not all mighty? Viacom is a giant corporation as well, but who is going to win?
And when we read Page’s statement “We have some people at Google (who) are really trying to build artificial intelligence and to do it on a large scale” what’s there left to say? Is Google trying to rule the Earth? Is Google playing God?
