Call me old fashioned, but I have to list here some of the linking strategies that, despite Google’s PR dance, still work. You see, SEO is not only about positioning in the SERPs: it is also about traffic ranks and trust ranks. When a link exchange brings traffic and happens between sites with reliable websites, there is no reason on earth for that strategy not to bear SEO value. So let’s start the list with the good old fashioned link exchange strategy.

Link exchanges between sites with similar authority and related content are still valued by the search engines. And where the SE place no value on the links the users will. Remember that the links act like bridges between sites - they carry the visitors from one to the other. And this should be your purpose too when you exchange links: to get targeted traffic, the only kind of traffic that brings potential buyers.

Article and press releases links. At point one I explained that the main purpose of the link should be to bring visitors to your site – thus increasing traffic ranks and trust ranks. Article and press release links do the very same thing. When an article is published on a high authority website, depending on the quality of the content and on the topic the links within will deliver the kind of traffic you need. Additionally the most important quality of the article links is their contextual placement. The secret with article links is not to submit your article to a large number of sites and article directories. Target just the sites that discuss topics related to your site and submit there.
