It is easier to tell you what not to do than to advise on what to do. I’ve tried to answer the “what should I optimise” question yesterday and the conclusion was that you should optimise “team-work”. I forgot to mention trust. If you don’t trust your SEO expert you are doomed to fail. So avoid hiring a SEO you don’t trust. Avoid hiring anyone you don’t trust for that matter!
When it comes to SEO techniques you should avoid, there are no secrets:
1. <!–[endif]–>Avoid keyword stuffing especially since search engines will focus more on the “natural” search and will check the web pages for similarity to eliminate scrapper and made for AdSense sites;
<!–[if !supportLists]–>2. <!–[endif]–>Avoid hidden text and hidden links. Although all SEOs warn against this technique too many webmasters still use it to “trick” the SE;
<!–[if !supportLists]–>3. <!–[endif]–>Avoid duplicate content for the same reasons explained at point 1. Unique content is a proof of quality and professionalism so it’s in your best interest to prove your website worth the trust of your visitors;
<!–[if !supportLists]–>4. <!–[endif]–>Avoid linking to bad neighbours (link farms, porn, gamble and booze sites, etc). Google’s quality guidelines suggest that the number of links on one page should not go over 99. Link farms contain hundreds of links.
<!–[if !supportLists]–>5. <!–[endif]–>Avoid cloaking and doorway pages.
These techniques bring fast results, but might lead to a permanent ban from the search engines. The price you’ll pay for employing unethical SEOs is too high. So choose a SEO you can trust!
